Kalapaki has several large resorts and small hotels. The Lagoons Golf Course at Kalapaki is one of the most sought after golf experiences in Kauai with some excellent coastal holes and immaculate conditions. Kapaa Town is a rather ordinary place with several large beach resorts, good restaurants and shopping. The area offers the most cost-effective accommodation in Hawaii and is a good base being half way between the north and south coast attractions. The Royal Coconut Coast. is situated alongside Kapaa Town on the wet side of Kauai amidst tropical rainforest, this is the ancient settlement of Hawaiian royalty. There are a number of beach resorts along the coast. Kealia Beach, north of Kapaa Town, offers good body surfing but no accommodation.Kamokila Village, a replica ancient Hawaiian Village, was built in 1981 as a tourist attraction to enhance the understanding of Hawaiian culture and traditional lifestyle. The Wailua River Valley is rich in authentic archaeological sites. The Wailua River Valley is a rich and important archaeological area with many interesting sites including HoloHolo Heiau. Kayaking up the Wailua River, the only navigable river in Hawaii. Kauai is an excellent destination for adventure and has lots of excellent hiking and kayaking tours. The twin falls of Opeakaa alongside the Wailua River. This attractive falls is one of several easily accessible falls on the east side of Kauai. Picturesque beach at Anahola, a quiet rural settlement with good shore fishing. The lighthouse at Kilauea and the surrounding sea cliffs are a great place to spot sea birds, especially frigates and boobies, as well as the Hawaiian monk seal, turtles, dolphins and migrating humpback whales. Beach at Princeville overlooking protected Hanalei Bay. The purpose built resort town of Princeville has several large resorts, shopping and golf courses. Golf course at Princeville, a popular spot for golfing and sightseeing holidays. Gorgeous Hanalei Bay is a deep protected bay ideal for swimming, kayaking, sailing, surfing and other water sports. Church at Hanalei, a small pioneering settlement with boutique shops and museums surrounded by stunning mountains. Lumahai Beach, which stretches west for several kilometres and backed by residential homes and guesthouses. The lagoon is dangerous for swimming due to currents. Haena Beach, near the end of the coastal road, is one of many beautiful beaches along the tropical north coast of Kauai. There are several small hotels and lots of vacations rentals and guesthouses between Hanalei and Haena. Lookout over the Taro fields of Hanalei Valley is a popular stop along the scenic north coast highway. Taro is the staple diet for PolynesiansKee Beach at the end of the coastal road on eastern Kauai. The spectacular beach at Wainiha is breathtaking to look at but the calm waters in the picture belie its hidden dangers. There is good snorkelling in the lagoon when the seas aren't rough and beyond the point are fabulous vies of the Na Pali Coastline View along the inaccessible Na Pali coastline from Kee Point. The compelling coastline can be explored on a day tour by boat or helicopter. Looking down the remote north coastline from the Kalalau Trail. This inspiring walk meanders along the coastline over valleys to secluded beaches. It is possible to walk for 2 days along the coast with no sign of civilization. There are excellent bush trails along the valley ridges at the other end of the trail at Kokee State Park. One of the most unusual scenes in Hawaii, Waimea Canyon covers a vast area of arid land in the dry western heart of Kauai. The scenic drive climbs to over 1000 metres and there are trails meandering throughout the State Park. The stunning sweeping beach between Waimea and Kekeha has fair swimming and surfing. Beyond Kekeha is the Barking Sands Airfield and Pacific Missile Range, strictly off limits to civilians. Wild beach front at Waimea Plantation in the undeveloped and dry south-western side of Kauai. This area was once dominated by sugar cane plantations but the industry became unprofitable in the 1980s and has since ground to a halt. The old fashioned village of Hanapepe with its art studios and bakeries is a popular stop on the way to Waimea Canyon. Poipu, the most popular resort area of Kauai, lies on the sunny south side of the island. There are several lovely beaches here, including the State Park which is usually busy with people swimming and surfing in the sea. Shipwreck Beach is one of the more secluded beaches at the eastern end of Poipu. The surrounding hills offer great coastal walks as well as horseback riding trails. The beaches to the west of Poipu begin to thin out and at high tide offer no sand to lie upon. Surfing is good though, mostly during the summer months. Spouting Horn, belching incoming sea water through its lava tube. The surrounding coastline offers raw beauty and there's a large flea market attracting the many tourists who flock here.
